Porch and Patio Trends for 2022
The warm months are finally here, and you’ll want to spend as much time outside soaking up the sun and fresh air as you can. One of the best places to do that is at home on your own porch or patio. Your outdoor spaces are a go-to spot to enjoy the weather, so why not update them with the latest outdoor living? Emerge2 would like to share some ideas and trends for 2022 that will make your patio a place where you and your friends will love spending time.
Get Cooking
Cooking outside on a grill, in a smoker, or over an open flame is a summer tradition. Recently, the trend is to move even more of that cooking and entertaining out of the house by installing an outdoor kitchen.
Gone are the days of standing around a solitary grill, running back and forth to the house to get things. With an outdoor kitchen, you have everything at your fingertips; hot and cold items within arm’s reach. Outdoor kitchens can range from simple to complex – start gradually with a mini fridge and some counter space, and add to it from there.
Get Growing
A growing outdoor trend is growing food on your patio. You don’t need to give up precious yard space to install a vegetable and herb garden if you have some space on the floors or walls outside.
There are several ways you can garden on your patio or porch. One method is container gardening – growing your veggies and herbs in planters and containers instead of in the ground. You will need some available table or floor space, but plants that aren’t rooted in the ground can be moved if needed. Many varieties of fresh herbs grow well in containers. There are even some vegetables specially produced to grow on patios.
Another method for growing if you’re short on floor space is vertical gardening. If you have some empty wall space on your porch or patio, you can install a vertical gardening rack and try your hand at growing herbs and leafy greens there. A large rack will give you lots of room for plants without taking up too much floor space on your deck.
Get Heated
Sometimes summer evenings can get cool and damp. For these times, there are different ways to heat up your patio on those chillier nights so that you can keep the party going.
Most outdoor heaters run on natural gas, so if you have a natural gas line running outside to a grill, you’re already in good shape. Heaters come in varying sizes and shapes depending on how much space you want to heat and how you want it to look in your space.
Some of the most popular outdoor heaters are models that stand upright on the floor of your porch or patio and radiate heat down and around wherever they are set up.
If you don't have the outdoor space for a floor model heater, there are also tabletop heaters that are similar in look to their floor model cousins. They don't give off as much heat due to their size, but they make up for their size in their portability.
Get Smart
Smart devices are controlling and automating homes everywhere, and it’s no surprise that this trend has moved out of the front and back doors onto patios and porches.
Sometimes, upgrading to smart devices can be a bit intimidating. Start off by thinking about the things you use most and start off slowly. For example, replacing one plug with a smart outdoor one can control a string of lights around your fence either by voice commands or with an app on your smartphone.
Everyone loves music at a backyard party, but why waste your time flipping through your phone to look for a song? Install a smart speaker that responds to you and plays the song or playlist you want immediately and keeps your party going.
